Threaded among the "opportunities" on the Internet,
are those messages that amount to wishful thinking. You know -- the ones that guarantee
all you have to do is hand over your money and do nothing -- a new definition of WWW:
Wealth Without Work.
If we are going to separate ourselves from
this "herd mentality", we have to accept a dose of reality: making serious money
on the Internet is not easy -- never was, never will be! In fact, it's darn hard. And your
personal attitude has more to do with your success than any other aspect of Internet
Marketing. If you don't get into the habit of getting things done, you'll get nothing
done.
One person's idea of success will claim
"it's all in your list". Another will claim "traffic, traffic,
traffic". Yet another claims "sell a product that everyone needs".
So who's right? Well in truth, all of them.
I suppose, like me, you get a brand new
promise hourly in your email box. And, like me, you've probably tried a few dead-end
schemes and been left with nothing but a promise never to fall for it again. After a few
of these we realize that we must arm ourselves with as much knowledge as possible.
So just try to forget the mathematics of
full matrixes, forget the 'deadline' before the price goes up, forget the offers that have
no product of serious benefit to anybody, and mostly forget the claims of other people
whose testimonials carry an ad under their name.
Everyone knows there are 20-year old "Dot
Com Millionaires", so it's natural to believe it must be a cinch! I mean, if they
can do it... And who wouldn't want to ditch a 9 to 5er and join the money making
revolution? Actually in principle, Internet Marketing is no different than running any
offline business. Long hours with a few 'trial and error' days and frustrations a-million
as you try to master the technical language and directions.
Commitment must be colossal. But when you
view your plan, take that first small step today. Complete this first task and when you
have finished, give yourself a pat on the back --- then set up new task for tomorrow. From
that point on it will become, not easy, just easy-er.
In the movie A League of Their Own, Geena
Davis wants to leave the team before its season ends to return home with her husband. When
the team's coach, played by Tom Hanks, challenges her decision, she says, "It's just
got too hard". Hanks replies " It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard,
everyone would do it --- the hard is what makes it great".
Don't quit before you win!
